There are many myths about food banks, so here are the facts.

In 2024/25, Gateshead Foodbank supported nearly 8,000 people with emergency food and support to help people move forward.

 We provide choice, dignity and nutritious food

People access us through referrals during genuine crisis

Many people only need support once

We offer financial advice, debt support and practical help * not just food

We are powered by volunteers, donations and our community

People who attend food banks include those in work, crisis can affect anyone.

Food banks are not a long-term solution, they are a safety net when people need it most.
